Here at Carolina Wren, we put in hours of hard work to ensure that our products are high quality and consistent. However, we care about more than just making candles and reed diffusers. We want to make a lasting impact on our world and the people in it. Carolina Wren exists not only to provide great products to customers, but even more so to serve people and to support others who share our focus. This is why we are Carolina Wren: Fragrance With a Purpose.
That being said, we are proud to introduce our most recent partner, Hayley Childress. Read on to hear directly from Hayley about her passions, and what she's working towards in this season of her life!
"My name is Hayley Childress. I am a 23-year old from Florence, SC. In 2014, I was abruptly awakened to the realities of human trafficking through a dear friend’s experience and Lula's Coffee Co., a local coffee shop's awareness initiative. I quickly learned, however, that it’s one thing to care about something (the emotional), and it’s another to actually do something about it (the call to action). Along with creating a website platform: Thriven Co. that promotes ethical consumerism and spreads awareness on issues of injustice, I started working at Naturally Outdoors, an outdoor outfitter in Florence that allowed me to promote responsible consumerism. Everything from fair trade (no slave labor involved) to environmentally-friendly products. Although the experience taught me so much, I knew I needed to narrow my focus in order to learn all the immense complexities of the social issues that surround us. Through friends and colleagues, I learned about YWAM (Youth With A Mission).
I learned that YWAM has many bases and programs all over the world, including a Justice-specific program located in Tauranga, New Zealand. After much praying, I knew God wanted me to leave my life for 6 months to be a part of this - to learn, to serve, and to grow. Not only for myself, but to take what I’m learning and share it with others, including my home community.
I’ve been here in Tauranga for almost a month now and it has far exceeded my expectations. It’s already been the most amazing experience of my life, yet also one of the most challenging. I can’t wait to share more about what I’ve been learning these past few weeks as well as looking forward to sharing about the weeks to come!"
We will be partnering with Hayley for the duration of her stay in New Zealand. Sign up for our newsletter to keep up with Hayley and her journey!
